The senators of New York and Connecticut made their case to U.S. Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland for the permanent preservation of Plum Island last month. Now it’s time for us to take our message right to the top! President Biden has the power to proclaim Plum Island a National Monument for the purpose of ecological conservation, historical preservation, and the discovery and celebration of our shared cultural heritage. In doing so, the President could protect this nationally important island—forever.
